Academic Conference “Owen Lattimore and the Issues of Mongolian History, Culture and Religion” was held.

    The Academic Conference “Owen Lattimore and the Issues of Mongolian History, Culture and Religion” was organized by the Mongolian Lattimore Research Society and the Institute of International Studies, MAS, on September 16th, 2023 at the second joint building of Mongolian Academy of Sciences. Academician Batbayar. Ts, the head of the Mongolian Lattimore Research Society, has given the opening speech at the conference and Dr Zolboo. D, the director of the Institute of International Studies, gave greetings wishing a success for the conference. 

    At the conference, Dr. Saruul-Erdene. M, librarian of the Asia and Middle East Department, Library of Congress of the United States of America, gave a presentation online, on the topic of "Owen Lattimore and American Mongolians: in the Case of Urgunge Onon and Hanginy Gombojav ". 

    Also, to mention the subjects discussed at the meeting, “Owen Lattimore and Diluva Khutugtu” by Ambassador Bold. Lattimore” by Ph.D Ulambayar. D, Director and Professor of the School of International Relations and Social Studies of the University of Humanities, “About the Mongolian Translations of Owen Lattimore: on the example of book “Nomads and Commissioners””, by Dr Zolboo. D, the director of the Institute of International Studies, “Friendship of Owen Lattimore and Diluva Khutugtu Jamsrangjab: Trust and secret”, by Dr Purevdorj. G, the lecturer of The University of Teachers, Khovd aimag, “Documents related to Owen Lattimore at the Intelligence Archives” by Dr Erdenebileg. B, deputy head of the Special Archives of the State Intelligence Agency, and “Mongolian and American relations and Owen Lattimore’s concept of “a satellite state””, by Academician Batbayar. Ts, head of the Mongolian Lattimore Research Society, Institute of History and Ethnography of Mongolian Academy of Sciences. 

    The conference is significant as it was the first academic conference regarding the life, scientific work and role of O. Lattimore in Mongolian-American relations in the 20th century, a famous scholar of Oriental and Mongolian studies, and as presentations had been discussed which are interesting and of importance in Lattimore studies, especially the biography of Owen Lattimore.
