“Ambassador’s Podium” Held in Honor of French-Mongolian Relations

An event under the “Ambassador’s Podium” was held, with Her Excellency Ms. Corinne Pereira da Silva, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Mongolia, invited as the guest of honor.

This event was organized to highlight the rapidly expanding cooperation between Mongolia and France in recent years. It aimed to inform scholars and researchers of the progress achieved, strengthen mutual trust, and reinforce shared values. The podium also sought to promote mutual understanding in the fields of science, technology, culture, and education, laying the groundwork for even closer bilateral collaboration.

In his opening remarks, Academician S. Demberel, President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS), stated: “Since assuming the role of President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, I have made it a priority to engage with embassies and diplomatic missions to advance international cooperation in science, technology, and innovation. I express my heartfelt appreciation to Her Excellency for visiting our Academy and supporting this shared vision.” He also proudly reflected on the historical roots of Mongolian-French cooperation, highlighting its success across a wide range of sectors, including politics, culture, science, education, the economy, defense, and environmental protection.

The shared commitment of both countries has been clearly reflected in the Academy’s activities, with international collaboration steadily expanding year by year. Numerous impactful research projects and joint programs have been implemented, yielding tangible results.

For instance, since 1994, the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics under MAS has carried out continuous collaborative projects with French scientific institutions for over three decades. These efforts have included seismic hazard assessments and studies of active faults conducted regularly in Ulaanbaatar and other regions. Together, Mongolian and French researchers have successfully advanced the study of Mongolia’s geodynamics. In the field of archaeology, joint French-Mongolian teams have led significant research projects under the MAS Institute of Archaeology, such as “Egiin Gol” and “Empires of the Nomads.” These studies, focused on the western and central regions of Mongolia, have yielded valuable discoveries related to the Paleolithic era and the Hunnu Empire, enriching historical scholarship.

Ambassador Pereira da Silva delivered a keynote address titled “Sixty Years of France-Mongolia Relations: Achievements and Future Outlook.” In her remarks, she emphasized France’s strategic development policies and long-standing tradition of bilateral diplomacy, while focusing on future opportunities to deepen cooperation, particularly in the fields of science, technology, innovation, education, and culture.

The event was attended by scholars and researchers from the various institutes of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
