Department of Regional Studies and International Organization

Objectives of Research

Department aims to study regional cooperation organizations and mechanisms surrounding Mongolia and their interests, impacts, challenges and opportunities on Mongolia on a large scale, and to conduct research supportive enough on determining Mongolia’s policy and position at international, regional and multilateral cooperations.

Department has mainly focused our researches on topics as “Russian, Chinese and international factors on Mongolia and Central Asian countries’ relations, cooperations and perspectives”, “Calculating the risk of Mongolia being drawn into conflicts in the Middle East (West Asia), international trends during the great crisis”, “Multilateral cooperation in Northeast Asia” and “Region and Mongolia: Focusing on Southeast Asia”.

Research Priorities

 Regional Studies:

  • Mongolia's participation and benefits in the integration of Northeast Asian and ASEAN countries, Mongolia's economic, social, political, cultural and humanitarian relations with the countries of this region;

Multilateral cooperation:

  • United Nations and its specialized agencies, other international organizations and Mongolia
  • Regional cooperation, integration and Mongolia (SCO, Eurasian Economic Union, APEC, ASEAN, Central and Northeast Asia);
  • Transnational and transregional international cooperation and Mongolia (“Silk road project” within the “Belt and road” initiative, the Economic Corridor of Mongolia, Russia, and China, CAREC);
  • Mongolia’s cooperation with international organizations, such as World Trade Organization, World Bank and International Monetary Fund, their activity in Mongolia, and its outcomes and impact.

Currently, the Department operates with 6 staff members: 2 Doctors of Science (ScD), 2 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and 2 Masters.
