Department of Russian Studies

When Institute of International Studies was established in 1999, Department of Russian Studies began its research independently. In expanding and developing Russian studies, the Department intends to rely on the historical path of the relations between the two countries and the modern requirements. For this purpose, Department continues to organize successfully numerous academic conferences, international meetings, and forums, and to publish books and pamphlets that will be a valuable contribution to Mongolia's foreign policy and science.

Currently, the Department operates with 6 staff members: 2 Doctors of Science (ScD), 1 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and 3 Masters.

 Objectives of Research

The Department aims to study Russia’s foreign policy, activities and perspectives in the region, to run a comparative study in history and current situation of Russia, to analyze mechanism of Mongolia-Russian relations and propose a scientifically based research recommendation for the implementation of foreign policy concept.

 Research Priorities:

  • Urgent issues of domestic and foreign policy of Russia;
  • Russia's foreign policy reform, impact and scope;
  • Development strategy issues of Russia;
  • Russian policy and activity towards Asia Pacific region;
  • Russian cooperation with Northeast Asian countries, and participation in regional economic integration;
  • Current situation, reform and perspectives of Mongolia-Russia relations in history, politics, economy, culture and education;
  • Regional and border cooperation between Mongolia and Russia.
